Following the health crisis, our Normandy windsurfer has to face a rather special 2020 season. Zoom in on his program.
After his usual month and a half of preparation in South Africa, Alex Grand-Guillot returned more motivated than ever.
« I was lucky to have very good conditions in Cape Town, Alex explains. I was in the water every day, which allowed me to work in depth on certain points that needed to be improved. Before I leave for my prep I take stock of my previous season to know what I need to improve. This year, I worked on the repetition of certain technical gestures and on the management of heats (competition round that can last between 10 and 20 minutes where two riders compete against each other to advance in the elimination draw). I was also able to work on figures that I had dropped because of a psychological barrier that I managed to overcome. »
The windsurfer then came back to train at home.
« When I came home I was very happy with my preparation, says Alex. I was lucky because when I came back, the storms came back to Cherbourg so I was able to continue my preparation and keep up the pace. »
With his 2020 calendar in his sights, Alex Grand-Guillot was in the starting blocks to attack this new season and take his revenge on the previous one. Unfortunately, the health crisis has somewhat disrupted his agenda.
« Competitive level this year is going to be a little special. The competition calendar has been totally turned upside down: the whole world circuit has been cancelled and we are waiting for the French Championship. At the beginning of the year, I had set myself two major objectives: the first was to be in the top 20 in the world and the second was to leave with the title of French Champion. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to do them this year but I’ll keep them in mind for next season! »
Full of motivation, the young sportsman was able to bounce back and set himself new goals.
« I would like to make up for the lack of competition by a strong media presence, in particular through videos and photos. So I called on professionals to provide quality content.
At the beginning of the year, I also had in mind to create a film about my daily life to show the life of a young athlete and explain how to keep motivated. I really wanted to show the back of the set. It is a project that is close to my heart and I now have the opportunity to implement it. »
A nice media project that shows the determination of our Norman windsurfer.
« I’m going to devote myself to training and communication. I will do everything I can to use this time wisely and learn even more. I’m very motivated and I don’t intend to leave my motivation in the closet! »
