On March 19, 2021, it was time for Alexis Loison to return to school and set sail for the first race of the 2021 season: the Solo Maitre Coq. Here is a look back at this return to racing.
Before the big start Alexis Loison confided to us his objectives for this season and his state of mind following this special year 2020.
« I am boosted and overmotivated both physically and mentally, confided Alexis Loison. It’s great to start with this race because it will allow me to get back into the swing of things after a hectic 2020 season due to my knee injury. This race is above all a working event because my main objective remains the Solitaire du Figaro. »
Alexis Loison started this first race with a lot of energy. With very good starts in the first two races, our Norman skipper played with fire a little too much and made some risky strategic choices. He then placed 16th in the provisional ranking at the end of the first two races.
After a day off, Alexis Loison started, on Thursday March 25th, the last race of the event with a 340 miles course around Ré, Belle-île and Yeu. He finished 11th in this round, which put him in 13th place overall.
« Overall, there were some good things and some not so good things, concludes Alexis. Last year I did very few solo races and this winter my preparation was more oriented towards double-handed races, so I admit that I had a hard time finding some reflexes during the Solo Maitre Coq. This result is all down to me, I made a few mistakes but now I know what I need to work on and focus on for the Solitaire. »
After the Solo Maître Coq, our skipper set sail for the second race of the season, the Sardinha Cup, which started on Wednesday, April 7. A duo regatta this time with Guillaume Pirouelle, the next skipper of the Normandy Region.
